Bright as Yellow

Well today is the big day, with the eyes of the world watching Romania as it struggles to find its place in the world. I’ve already had a number of (foreign) journalists contact me and I know the cameras will be rolling in the streets of Bucharest. But for now, time to take a small break and enjoy a peaceful Saturday at the height of a glorious summer.

There’s no way for you to know this but the photo above is one I took in my little garden. Unlike all of the other plants, this one was intentionally planted, nourished and watered by me. I’ve always had a fascination with sunflowers, their cheerful, bright yellow being my favorite color. During my second trip to Romania, I rode in a car and got to see the landscape, including immense fields of these beautiful flowers all orienting their faces towards the sun.

I have another reason to love sunflowers. Like me, they are originally from America but made their way across the wide blue ocean and found a welcoming home here. There is just something about this place that seems to suit us both. I cannot even tell you how much joy it brings me to look at these wonderful plants.

Enjoy your Saturday, folks!

Sam, I thought the big day was tomorrow. Today it’s just…

    Saturday in the park
    I think it’s 28th of July
    Saturday in the park
    Tomorrow’s 29th of July
    People talking about voting
    Aceeaşi mizerie
    Waiting for us all
If we hate it, really hate it
Can we change it? (Yes, we can!)
And I’ve been waiting such a long time
    For Saturday…
