Vine Iepurasul!

As you probably know, the holiday of Easter is rapidly approaching. This year is kind of cool because it’s being celebrated on the same day in both the Romanian Orthodox tradition as well as the other kinds of Christianity, including Catholicism and Protestants. On many years, Hungarians (and others) celebrate it one week while Orthodox Romanians use the old calendar and celebrate it on another day.

Note: curiously the Orthodox church in Romania uses the “western” calendar to celebrate Christmas, i.e. December 25, when all other Eastern Orthodox churches (Serbian, Russian, etc) use the old calendar. But the Romanian Orthodox church uses the old calendar for Easter. Not quite sure why.

There’s not much more to say other than to read this article, featuring yours truly :)

There’s also a nice story about my experiences in Romania on Easter in my book as well.

PEACE!
