In my last post, you saw the word gagică (GAH-jeekah), the official definition of which can be found here (in Romanian).

Coming from the gypsy language (hopa!), it originally meant a woman who was something of a mistress, concubine or “lover” as opposed to one’s wife or established partner. Over time it has evolved into something along the lines of a generic word for any female (pl. gagici), similar to AmerEnglish “chick” or BritEnglish “bird” or whatever generic term is used in current slang (broad, skirt, dame, babe, etc).

Just as in English, it’s not really a derogatory word but it does have a connotation of being used only for younger women, especially attractive ones and more for your girlfriend than for your wife. It’s definitely not a term of respect but doesn’t rise to the level of being insulting, per se.
