My personal Facebook page is here.

If you want to add me as a friend on FB, feel free to do so! I always auto-accept anyone with a Romanian name, so if you love Romania but your family name doesn’t end in -escu or -eanu, just send me a quick comment with the friend add request so I know you’re not a spam bot.

If you want to “like” this website’s Facebook page, click here.

Note: I log onto Facebook about once a week (or even more rarely), so if you want any kind of timely response, please use email!

Email

The easiest way to reach me is via email at samcelroman@gmail.com.

I respond to all emails within about 24 hours (maybe more on the weekend), so if you really want to reach me, EMAIL IS BEST.

Twitter

My Twitter ID is: lifeinromania

I love Twitter, and I probably always will. I’m happy to have followers on Twitter, but please keep in mind that I rarely respond to RTs, DMs, and messages. It isn’t about you – I’d just get nothing else done in a day if I turned on notifications.

If you’re interested in my latest thoughts or “hot takes” on the news, however, you can either follow me on Twitter, read the feed at the bottom of each page (here on the blog), or use the link to read my stuff directly on the web.

Tumblr

Yes, I have a Tumblr page, but I barely know how to access it or respond to messages. If you’re trying to reach me on Tumblr, be prepared to wait a year or two!

Instagram

My personal Instagram account is here.

Instagram can be fun, and I’d be happy to have you “follow” me there, but please don’t expect a response to messages. My tablet is incredibly old and slow, and it makes everything very painful. I can barely get it to post photos much less respond to comments and messages and all the rest.

Google Plus

Yes, I have a Google+ page, but I don’t know how to access or use it. Sorry!

  1. What can I say ? You`re pretty awesome and the way you portray Romania is much better than any Romanian could. I am curing my home sickness with your blog and I like what I`m reading so thank you for being out there :)
As for the people like Dinesco up there, I would suggest ignoring them as their IQ is clearly below the average : there is criticism and there is rudeness.
Best of luck from sunny Australia from a Romanian expat.

    1. I can’t believe I missed this “gem” of a message.

Felicitari pentru reusita de a folosi toate cuvintele din vocabularul tau intr-un singur mesaj.
Femeia de servici cu care ai invatat limba romana ar fi mandra.

Oameni ca tine trag poporul asta in jos.

Dinesco, hai, recunoaste: barza care te-a adus, isi cere scuze parintilor tai si in ziua de azi, asa-i? Dar sa stii ca nu barza e de vina, ci parintii tai, care nu s-au sterilizat la timp ;)…

    2. This Dinesco reminds me the elegant language of Mircea Dinescu, formerly dissident poet, currently ”ciocoi nou”. They may be the same person. Anyway, disregard his message and

  4. Hi!

I just wanted to congratulate you on your book and this wonderful blog!

I came here with the Facebook wave, was instantly hooked and have been reading your new and old posts ever since. I like your insight into life in this country; and since I actually enjoy being a Romanian myself, I support your promoting of Romanian awesomeness wholeheartedly! I also love that you write about Cluj, which has always felt like home to me (although I’m from Sibiu) and which I constantly miss. I hope to move back someday, in the meantime I can’t wait to visit all my friends there after Christmas. I’ll be sure to ask about you around Gruia :p

I can’t wait for your book to be available in Romania. I wanted to buy it the second I read your announcement, but alas the shipping fees are more than double the cost of the book, so I’ll wait until you find a solution for selling locally.

Best of luck and say hi to Kolozsvár for me!

  5. I have been to Romania many times. I love it. I don’t get what guy or link you refer to (guy from Philadelphia). I love Romanian food and cuisine and I think Bourdain missed the boat. I am as open minded as you are and I definitely saw and enjoyed the same things you did. The difference between us is that you are a lot funnier and happier. Also, you probably care about your subjects, while all I wanted to do was take advantage of Romanian women’s love of Americans. I think I lacked your royal touch.

    1. There’s a link to a Facebook page, which is the page for a bar. My friend from Philadelphia and his Romanian wife own that bar. Sorry but i don’t use Facebook so i can’t see what it looks like but he refuses to put up a “normal” webpage for his business.

  6. Your Highness,

How do you make money in your kingdom? I am very envious of your sensibility and humor, I live a boring existence in Philadelphia and I wish I were in your realm. Then you could be my patron and order women courtiers to my bed! And my Romanian wife to shut up or start speaking Romanian!

    Best Wishes,

    1. Well my current situation has changed but if you’re an American (or to a lesser extent, British/Australian) citizen, it is incredibly easy to work online. Think about this. Imagine you had a data entry job that paid 6 bucks an hour. You do this job entirely online so you do it from home, wearing pajamas (if you like). No car, no gas, no commute, no business clothes.

      You like working so you work 40 hours a week x $6 = 240
Times four weeks = 960 dollars

Since you’re an independent contractor (form 10-99), you don’t get taxes deducted. Therefore you actually get 960 dollars direct deposited into your bank account.

960 dollars = 31 million (old) lei or else 3,100 new lei

The minimum wage here is something like 4.5 million and probably most Romanians reading this (who work in Romania) are earning between 12 and 20 million.

So you can see a 6 dollar an hour job in America already puts you ahead of most Romanians’ incomes. If you truly want to know where to find online work and no bullshit or scams, try SOHO jobs. You have to pay to get some of the good stuff but they’re legit.

Mind you, sitting at home doing mindless data entry isn’t fun :P but in terms of HOW you do it, that’s a very good step in the right direction.

OR if you already have some money in the bank, like my friend who moved here from Philadelphia w/his Romanian wife (see Contact Info page), you can open your own business.

PS before you move here, come and visit! :D

      1. An actual website might help, as we don’t all know what a SOHO job means.

I mean….you can find some pretty decent flats in Cluj at about 300

P.S: For how long r u working online? What domain?
