A few weeks ago, I was out walking the dog early in the morning when I caught a “tagger” painting his logo on my neighbor’s house.

Tagging is when young men use spray paint to plaster their logo or name (called their “tag”) on public buildings, including people’s houses.

I didn’t make a scene because the neighbor in question is a complete asshole, but I did startle the tagger, so I decided to strike up a little conversation. I can’t say that we’re now best friends, but we did exchange contact information.

After I wrote my piece on Vadim Krasnoselsky, the “President of all Moldovans,” I couldn’t stop thinking about that weird photo that he allowed to be posted online of him and his family.

One thing led to another, and I asked my tagger “friend” if there was any way we could pay tribute to that awful, weird, yet fascinating photo.

He contacted some of his tagging friends, and they took me to an area of Chisinau near an old railway tunnel where the walls were already covered in graffiti (or “street art,” depending on your perspective).

With photo in hand, the crew quickly came up with this:

Unfortunately, the image you see above is just a photographic trick. Alas, there is no mural of Vadim Krasnoselsky in Chisinau or anywhere else, although I really think there should be.

I did, however, meet that tagger while walking my dog, only instead of befriending him, I told him to go spraypaint the outside of someone else’s house.

My neighbor truly is a dick, but I really don’t like seeing “tags” all over my neighborhood.
