You’re welcome!

I came across your site and I am very impressed about your passion for Romania. I am a Romanian myself, who leaves in UK for nearly 8 years now. The way I deal with missing my country is not to think about its beauty… because it makes me cry. Your words brought me back to the feelings I run away from :)

Awww… thanks for the kind comments. But you can always come back home! In fact, I know a certain strawberry-colored low-cost airline which still flies into Cluj and other Romanian cities multiple times a week from Britain :)

I came across your blog a couple of days ago and read everything in there. I really liked it. It is hard to be Romanian and not to be at least flattered by some of the things you write in a very insightful, intelligent, delightful and funny way (I laughed my arse off reading some of the stuff in there, as well as the examples from the travelers blogs and such). I also bought the books you wrote, both in Romanian and English.

My favorite kind of reader! :D Stay tuned for some news concerning this here soon, btw.

I’m not a stalker, I promise :) Though I know it might’ve sound a bit weird… it’s just that I’ve been following your blog(s) for quite a while and I absolutely love the style you write in and the vibe it creates. Keep up the good work!

Damnit! I’ve been hoping I’d get a stalker one of these days and every time I think my dreams are about to come true…. *sniff*

From another reader:

Marry me!!!! :)

Hmm… can we start with a little stalking first? Why the rush? Boys like a little foreplay too, you know :P

Hi Sam,

Thanks for your email about the contest. Wow, I’m so flattered!

Last night, I was wearing my old cow print pajamas and sitting around my apartment, reading Click! and doing research for a big new story I’m writing. I ended up uncorking a big jug of Dracula wine, drowning my sorrow about my fleeting youth, the impermanence of life, the whole Shakespearian deal about how we’re just players on the stage, strutting back and forth for a brief moment and how it signifies nothing. Sorry to ramble but I guess what I’m trying to say is lately I’ve been feeling my age and I realized I’ve spent so many years in this worthless shithole of a country and all I’ve got to show for it is a handful of Pulitzer Prizes and I couldn’t help but ask, “Isn’t there more to life than this?”

So your email came at just the right time. It made me laugh, it made me cry. It was better than CATS! I called my maid over and made her put away the ice cream, wash the smudged mascara from my face and put the jug of Dracula wine back in the pantry because I have resolved to make this year the best year ever. I realize my career is mostly at a dead end here but why not make tuica when life gives you prunes, eh? That’s what my neighbor told me – I think. I really don’t speak Romanian. I do know how to order out for pizza on my own though.

Anyhoo, just wanted to say thanks for brightening up my day. I can already feel a new throb of energy coursing through my veins, a thrilling excitement to find new ways to write about Romania and all of its silly, quaint customs. And I have you to thank, dear Sam. Can I call you that? We’re friends now, aren’t we? I could use a friend right now. Especially one who buys my book! I’ve got so many left over I used them to build a coffee table. And an entertainment center.

Keep on truckin’ my fellow American!

Okay, one of these is entirely fictional. But I’m not saying which one! :D
